Speaking is the most difficult skill
Because it uses more parts of the brain than the other skills (check out our infographic here)
So we need to exercise these parts separately and together.
We have been looking at good language to use to improve our English speaking skill (click here for an example) but now we must practice the mouth, not the brain.
Speaking fluently is connected with good muscle control of the mouth and face because it helps pronunciation and it reduces your accent.
So here is a speaking tutorial to help your English speaking skill.
Do these exercises 10 times each.
And do them once every day.
But why do this?
Ok, the science? (Don’t worry, you don’t have to read this, it is for the nerds )
Well, the brain is full of nerves. Nerves control co-ordination.
Speaking is your brain co-ordinating your mouth to make the sounds that are in your head.
These sounds represent words.
If these sounds are not normal, your brain will need more energy to co-ordinate.
- First, you brain must remember the sound
- Secondly, your brain must remember the nerves it needs to activate to make the sound
- Finally, your brain must try to make the sound
All of this is easier if you practice.
Practice makes nerve connections stronger so:
- The brain remembers the sound faster.
- The brain remembers how to make the sound faster.
- Your brain makes the sound better because you have practised and the muscles are more aware of what to do.
It’s like driving a car.
There are lots of things you must do together (co-ordinate) to be successful.
More practice makes the skill easier to do and allows you to go to more advanced practice.
I hope it helps
