OK, so you can speak English, so what’s the problem?
It feels like I am always saying the same sentences again and again and again.
I need some variety in my speaking!
No problem!! Have you heard of functional language?
Functional language is groups of words that have the same job.
For example – Expressing Preference (saying what you like more than another thing)
prefer [____ing/ noun] to [____ing/ noun]
= like more (generally, normally)
would prefer [____ing/ noun] to [______ing/ noun]
= like more(specifcally/ now)
would rather [verb] than [verb]
= like more (specifically/ now)
There are many different jobs of functional language
- Giving opinion
- Agreeing/ disagreeing
- Giving suggestions
- Comparing/ contrasting
…to name a few.
The next few posts will be about functional language and how to use it.
Try to copy the examples and make some sentences that are accurate for your preferences.
I hope it helps
